Esscala Entertainment presents Esscala Nights with John O’Callaghan at Cielo, NYC on 19th of December 2015

For everyone still weeping from the lack of Dreamstate in their lives, Esscala has heard your cries. They’ve teamed up with Cielo for another night of exceptionally dope music. They’ve become the stewards of Trance in the city and rarely disappoint. On December 19th, they’re bringing in John O’Callaghan from Ireland for a proper three hour set. Some of you have been fans since his Essential Mix in 2008, others hadn’t heard of him until his spectacular Dreamstate live set hit Soundcloud.

The Irish wizard has become one of the hardest working producers in the Trance universe. With tracks appearing on Future Sounds of Egypt, A State of Trance, and a dozen other trance podcasts, JOC (as some call him) is truly a global success. The first Irish DJ to spin Trance Energy way back when Trance Energy was still a thing (old school alert), he’s been one of those producers that always gets listened to. If there’s a new tune, EP or album, it’s getting put into my face. Like with a very select few Trance DJs, I really haven’t been disappointed by a release of JOC’s in the last couple of years.

Subculture is a splendid podcast, showcasing not only his studio work, but also performing that crucial function of serving up his live sets to his ravenous fans. I get FOMO hard when I know a DJ is throwing down at a major festival somewhere else in the world but I have no access to it. John O’Callaghan makes sure that the best of his sets are available for us. Ferry Corsten, Aly & Fila and a small number of other Trance DJs really go out of their way to make that happen, and I think it’s a wonderful thing. I think it speaks to the global nature of the Trance Family, which is a different fandom entirely than a lot of genres of dance music more popular in the USA right now (I’m looking at you Future House). They know Trance fans can’t get enough of this stuff, so they don’t make them wait until ASOT or FSOE comes to town.

I’m super lucky to live in NYC, where Esscala has spent years fighting for the best global Trance talent. Cielo has become home for a number of different producers when they find themselves in town, and it’s a great spot to have it. Posh, not cavernous, with an excellent sound system in a good location. There’s not a lot more to say here, except, the Trance Family will be out in full effect on the 19th. This kind of sound isn’t available weekly, so I’ll be there with bells on. Don’t miss the three hour set, and get tickets on Cielo Club official website.
