ARMIN VAN BUUREN LINKS UP WITH DUNCAN LAURENCE ON ‘FEEL SOMETHING’
Armin van Buuren, the five-time #1 DJ in the world and the artist behind UK Top 10 hit ‘This Is What It Feels Like’, returns with a huge pop dance track that’s bound to resonate strongly with all who listen. A collaboration with Dutch singer-songwriter sensation Duncan Laurence, the latest offering from Armin van Buuren, ‘Feel Something’, delivers an infectious chorus and a gritty synth-pop beat.
Reflecting on the pain of heartbreak and made during lockdown, ‘Feel Something’ came together when Armin and Duncan Laurence decided to hit the studio after a first meeting at the Top 40 Awards in Amsterdam. “Whenever I’m writing a song, I try to draw from the most recognizable life-altering events around me and find the little things that suddenly feel so different because of it”, Duncan Laurence explains when asked about the inspiration for the song. “The vacant chair on the other side of the kitchen table, the empty half of a double bed, that kind of stuff. Even though it hurts, it’s also a memory of something beautiful. And that’s what ‘Feel Something’ is about. I wrote it together with Leland (Brett McLaughlin, known for songs from the likes of Troye Sivan and Selena Gomez), and it’s about rather feeling something than nothing at all, even though it may cause that gut-wrenching feeling in the pit of the stomach or a tear on the cheek. At least you ‘Feel Something’. I’m very happy that the message of this song gets to see the light of day, and I am super proud that I got to do this with someone like Armin.”
“I always feel blessed working with very talented singer-songwriters”, Armin van Buuren adds. “Not only because they love music just as much as I do, but also because it reminds me that I am so lucky to be able to create music with other people and do this for a living. If you’ve ever heard Duncan Laurence perform live: that voice… what a gift! Working together with him was an absolute blessing and I am very proud of the result. It’s fresh and new, and we put a lot of love in it. We intended to let listeners ‘Feel Something’, and that’s exactly what this record does.”
Over the course of his twenty-plus-year career, Armin van Buuren’s musical feats have made quite an impact across the UK music scene. After first entering the UK Singles Chart with seminal Trance hit ‘Communication’ (#18) in 1999, the Dutchman peaked at #37 in the Official Albums Chart with his ‘Intense’ album and secured a #6 spot in the Official Singles Chart with his Grammy-nominated hit ‘This Is What It Feel Like’ (feat. Trevor Guthrie) in 2013. On the live front, he frequented played at iconic clubs (and club/festivals brands) such as Cream, Godskitchen and Gatecrasher, hosted his famous ASOT stage at multiple editions of the renowned Creamfields festival, headlined the Godskitchen Global Gathering and South West Four on numerous occasions and sold out the SSE Wembley Arena in 2019.
Duncan Laurence has been enjoying a meteoric rise to stardom ever since he took world by storm with ‘Arcade’. Marking the Dutch singer-songwriter’s big breakthrough, the song hit #1 in Spotify’s Global Viral Chart upon release, earned him a spot in the BBC Breakfast TV Show and racked up almost 300 million streams across the most popular streaming platforms worldwide since.
