Oh, how the time flies. It seems like the year 2013 was only yesterday, and Suanda Music, Roman Messer’s fledgling label, was only starting to make a name for itself in the trance scene with its first releases – baby steps.
A blink of an eye, and we find ourselves 10 years later, in 2023, where Suanda Music has grown to be a force to be reckoned with and one of the better known trance labels – and brands – both at home and worldwide. With well over a thousand releases across its multiple sublabels each dedicated to a specific sound and ethos, a lineup of recurring established artists from all over the world who regularly release their own music on Roman’s labels, a plethora of new talents discovered by Suanda, dozens of club events, Roman’s weekly radio show, countless radio and podcast plays by other DJs across the trance scene every week, official mix compilations, and of course Roman’s own successful career as a musician and a DJ that went hand-in-hand with running his label, Suanda Music is a household name in trance nowadays. And to think that it all started 10 years ago with a same-titled single release.
A decade is a very respectable age in the ever-changing landscape of dance music. Styles and trends change, notable artists come and go, even the ways people listen to music have changed considerably since 2013 – a label that has persevered and is showing no signs of running out of steam is a testament to Roman’s skill in guiding its direction and development. A milestone achievement no doubt, Suanda Music’s anniversary is celebrated, rather appropriately, with club events featuring a slew of the label’s regular artists stepping behind the decks. Just in time for these celebrations, Roman Messer unveils a very special mix compilation that takes the listener on a trip down memory lane of Suanda history.
The two CDs are packed with bona fide Suanda classics and Roman Messer’s personal favorites from the ten years of the label, and are a proper showcase of Suanda’s legacy and where things are at the moment. The international Suanda crew of no-introduction-needed label regulars whose tracks and remixes made the cut includes FEEL, Adip Kiyoi, NoMosk, Alex M.O.R.P.H., Ahmed Helmy, A.R.D.I., Davey Asprey, Papulin, Photographer, Christina Novelli, Roxanne Emery and many others, while the lesser known – yet? – names of the rising stars like Neil Hunter, CubeTonic, or AMINTO showcase Suanda’s broad reach in the search of new talents and help in building their music careers. Roman Messer’s very own music, of course, makes plenty of appearances on the two discs, too. From Russia to the United States, from Indonesia to Spain, from Egypt to Germany, the roster of Suanda’s core artists spans the globe and speaks volumes of its reputation in the trance scene.
Representing the wide range of the sound offered by the label and showcasing the highlights of Suanda’s past, present, and perhaps a glimpse of its future, ’10 Years Of Suanda Music’ is the essential Suanda compilation and the centerpiece of the anniversary celebrations. Here’s to – at the very least – another decade!
