Various Artists presents Suanda Music 2022 mixed by Roman Messer on Suanda Music
As inevitable as the yellow leaves, early fall now has another hallmark of the season. Suanda Music, Roman Messer’s label family and a formidable force in the trance scene, celebrates revolutions around the Sun with annual installments of a dedicated 2 CD mix compilation series around this time of the year. An emerging tradition still – it was only in 2020 when the first edition saw the light of day – yet 2022 brings forth evidence that it is one to stay.
Coinciding with the celebrations of episode 350 of Roman’s eponymous radio show, ‘Suanda Music 2022’ is a showcase of the music that made 2022 for Roman as a label boss. To quote him, it is a mixture of his personal best picks of recent past, present, and foreseeable future, and a selection of certified crowd favorites from his DJ sets over the year time and time again. As the calendar year starts drawing to an end, it is time to reflect on what moments from Suanda’s expansive release catalogue will stand the test of time and will be remembered as the highlights of the year – and this retrospective is what ‘Suanda Music 2022’ is all about.
Representing the wide range of sound that can be found on the family of Suanda labels, ‘Suanda Music 2022’ spans a little over two hours of music – 2 CDs on the physical release, 15 tracks each for a total of 30 – in a seamless DJ mix by Roman Messer himself. Covering some exciting new ground in 2022 courtesy of the new sublabel Suanda Future that launched this year and is dedicated to future rave and related sounds, the two mixes focus, respectively, on the slower and lighter side of mostly progressive styles and on the peaktime, hands-in-the-air uplifting trance goodness.
The progressive side of things sees Roman select music such as the two tracks by Tonerush that have been a mainstay in Roman’s sets this summer, the collaboration ‘Focus’ by label regulars Papulin and Ruslan Radriges, and the two tracks ‘Freefalling’ and ‘I Feel You’ by Michael Milov, with the latter acting as an excellent showcase of the sound of Suanda Future, as does the music of the fast rising talent Julie Dvir who is featured on CD 1 too – and of course Roman’s own studio work. ‘One World’, his track together with Egypt’s Ahmed Helmy, is the official anthem of the eponymous celebrations of Episode 350 of Roman’s weekly Suanda Music radio show. Taking place in both of the dance music capitals of Roman’s home country right as the calendar turns from September to October, the two special Suanda events see Ahmed Helmy join the rest of the Suanda family in person on stage as the guest of honor with his own DJ sets.
Focusing on the uplifting sounds, CD 2 quickly moves into the territory of banger after banger. Christopher Corrigan, the man of the moment on Suanda, is featured with a remix and an original track of his own, ‘Light Of Love’. Music by the likes of Darren O’Brien (‘Imbue’) and A.R.D.I. (his remix of FAWZY) is taken fresh off Suanda’s recent releases press, while the brand new Alex M.O.R.P.H. remix of the Suanda back catalogue classic ‘Your Love’ by ThoBa and Kate Miles is hand-picked by Roman as a compilation exclusive premiere. And, of course, CD 2 sees no shortage of Roman Messer’s own musical output throughout the year, with the likes of his ‘Full Fire’ update of his seminal track ‘Frozen’ with Christina Novelli, his hot new single ‘Upon The Horizon’ with Joe Jury, the instrumental anthem ‘Back To The Future’ that kicks things off, and two more tracks, for a grand total of a third of CD 2 being his own music.
In just a little over half a year, Suanda Music will be celebrating its 10th anniversary – a decade certainly makes a brand mature in the fast changing world of electronic dance music. Showing no signs of its momentum stopping anytime soon, Suanda has grown to be a force to be reckoned with – and this compilation, with its highlights of the past 365 days, shows exactly why. ‘Suanda Music 2022’ is a perfect embodiment of the modern sound of Roman Messer’s trance powerhouse!
